July 6: Allen Toussaint Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue
Sunday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue kicked off an afternoon of music honoring New Orleans. 22-year-old music-sensation Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews lived up to the name, and his reputation as a virtuoso trombone and trumpet player. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Allen Toussaint brought the Big Easy to the Grove. Toussaint played a wide range of music from his 40 year career as a singer, pianist, songwriter, arranger, and producer. In a surprise moment, Toussaint invited Trombone Shorty to share the stage, bringing together two generations of great New Orleans music.
