New Text Message Donation PRESS RELEASE STERN GROVE FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES NEW SMS TEXT MESSAGE DONATION CAMPAIGN DURING ITS 71ST SEASON OF ADMISSION-FREE CONCERTS SAN FRANCISCO, June 2, 2008 - Taking a leadership role in the move to incorporate mobile technology into the world of philanthropy, Stern Grove Festival Association announced it will launch a new program on June 15, 2008 designed to capture donations via text message. Stern Grove Festival has partnered with Denver-based Mobile Accord, Inc., the premier provider of mobile technology to the non-profit sector. The mobile giving channel is supported by AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint/Nextel, T-Mobile and Alltel representing the vast majority of U.S. mobile users. According to Mobile Accord, Stern Grove Festival is the first arts organization in the United States to embrace this mobile giving channel, allowing donors to connect with the organization and contribute funds through text messaging. Cell phone users will have the chance to instantly react to fundraising appeals and confirm their donation by simply sending a text message. The donation is charged to the donor’s regular monthly cell phone bill and is separated from other transactions and identified as a non-taxable donation. Stern Grove Festival will launch the mobile giving program on the day of the opening concert of its 71st Season. Beginning Sunday, June 15, 2008, virtually anyone with a mobile phone can make a $5 donation to Stern Grove Festival by sending the text message GROVE to 90999. “Individual contributions are crucial to the Festival,” said Steven P. Haines, Executive Director of Stern Grove Festival. “While Stern Grove Festival has always been and will always be admission-free, each year we must raise nearly $2 million to present these performances and our outreach programs. If each person who attends the Festival this summer contributes $5, it would have a significant impact on our organization.” Mobile Accord spokesperson Tony Aiello, SVP Business Development states, “We have worked hard over the last 2½ years to accomplish this goal and continue to lead the way by developing innovative technology, educating nonprofits about the power of the mobile channel and working with U.S. wireless carriers to embrace a framework for mobile giving that works for donors and charities alike.” “Mobile technology sets the stage for true impulse giving by removing traditional barriers such as communicating credit card information or writing a check. Cell phone users are empowered to act anytime, anywhere at the moment an appeal has top of mind awareness,” said James Eberhard, Chairman of Mobile Accord, Inc. About Stern Grove Festival Founded in 1938, the Stern Grove Festival Association presents a summer series of admission-free, world-class performing arts concerts and outreach programs in Sigmund Stern Grove, a beautiful natural amphitheater in the center of San Francisco.
