Davell Crawford Since the age of seven, Davell Crawford has been introducing venues worldwide to his unique blend of traditional American roots, Cajun, R&B, and jazz inspired tunes. Known as the Prince of New Orleans, Crawford is credited with keeping the styles of such artists as Satchmo, James Booker, and his own grandfather, “Sugar Boy” Crawford, alive and thriving. The Prince’s works range from heart string tugging jazz ballads to Cajun infused pieces and funk heavy rhythms and feature heavily his interpretation of the classic New Orleans piano traditions. Crawford’s extensive catalog of recordings belies his ability to create relevant works based on and inspired by jazz and gospel legends. He released Live From Brazil, an album featuring his complete touring band and back-up singers straight out of New Orleans, in 1994 to wide critical acclaim. Since then, Crawford has released eight solo albums and has lent his skills to recordings for numerous other artists. Crawford's performance at Stern Grove brought the energy of his New Orleans culture to the Bay Area, showcasing the diversity of American musical traditions.
