Pete Escovedo
For more than 50 years, percussionist Pete Escovedo has been breaking the barriers between smooth jazz, salsa, Latin jazz, and contemporary music.
Born in Pittsburg, CA in 1935, he began his musical journey at the age of sixteen, when he began playing the saxophone and then discovered percussion. After performing with various bands, in 1960 Pete and his brothers, Coke and Phil Escovedo, formed the Escovedo Brothers Latin Jazz band, performing around the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 1970 Pete and Coke formed the band Azteca which toured the United States with Stevie Wonder and The Temptations. They recorded two albums on Columbia Records, Azteca and Pyramid of the Moon. In 1972 Pete toured and performed with Carlos Santana and recorded three major albums, Moonflower, Oneness, and Inner Secrets. In 1978 Pete and daughter Sheila E. recorded two albums on Fantasy records, Solo Two and Happy Together, which were produced by Billy Cobham.
Pete’s versatility as a percussionist has been featured in performances and recordings by a wide range of artists such as Carlos Santana, Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock, Mongo Santamaria, Bobby McFerrin, Anita Baker, George Duke, Boz Scaggs, Andy Narell, Al Jarreau, Ray Obiedo, Dionne Warwick, Barry White, Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez, Chick Corea, Prince, and more.
Sheila E.
Emmy and Grammy nominee Sheila Escovedo picked up the drumsticks and started making music at the precocious age of three, while watching her father, Pete Escovedo, rehearse. Sheila delivered her first solo performance to a live audience two years later and has since established herself as one of the most talented percussionist/drummers and performers in the world.
Best known to music fans as Sheila E., she became a top session and touring musician before the age of 20, performing and recording with artists like George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Babyface, Patti LaBelle, and Steve Nicks among others.


In the 1980’s, Sheila’s friend Prince helped to catapult her to pop superstardom with hits like “The Glamorous Life†and “A Love Bizarre,†plus her pivotal work on other Prince-related projects. Particularly proud moments include her participation in the “We Are The World†session, and a memorable performance on the Oscars with virtuoso Placido Domingo.


In recent years, she has served as musical director for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce Knowles, and Prince. Her producing and arranging talents have been showcased at this year’s Academy Awards, the Latin Grammy Awards, Summer Olympics, WOW Awards, ALMA’s, and the Image Awards.
Recently received a Doctorate of Music Degree from MI, and was honored with a 2010 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music Direction for “Fiesta Latina, A Performance at the White Houseâ€. Along with her musical pursuits, Sheila is the co-founder and chair of the Elevate Hope Foundation, focusing on the needs of victims of child abuse.
Juan Escovedo
At a young age, inspired by his father, Pete Escovedo, Juan began teaching himself to play bongos, congas, trap drums, timbales, percussion, and other instruments. At the age of 14 he began performing with his father, Pete Escovedo, and has since recorded five albums with him. Juan also leads his own band, The Juan Escovedo Orchestra, which has toured internationally.
Juan has additionally toured, performed, and recorded with many artists such as Prince, Tony Toni Tone, Patti LaBelle, Lou Bega, MC Hammer, En Vogue, El DeBarge, Barry White, Herbie Hancock, Jody Watley, Bobby McFerrin, Tito Puente, Cheryl Lynn, his sister Sheila E, and many others.
Peter Michael Escovedo
Peter Michael Escovedo has earned recognition not only as a percussionist, but a producer, singer, songwriter, and television personality. Peter Michael has contributed in countless world tours, recordings and television production. He has produced television shows, written music for film, theme songs for television, composed, arranged, and produced music for various artists, and is currently releasing a new E Family CD with guest appearances by Joss Stone, Earth Wind and Fire, Gloria Estefan, Raphael Saadiq, and Isreal Houghton.
