To celebrate opening day of the 77th Season, Stern Grove Festival presented The Big Picnic starring Grammy-winning R&B legend Smokey Robinson and R&B great Patti Austin. Stern Grove was packed to the brim. The concert meadow, west meadow and the hillside boomed with R&B lovers of all ages, appreciating a beautiful, sunny day with friends and family.

The performance was dedicated to the memory of Rosalie M. Stern, donor of Sigmund Stern Grove to the people of San Francisco and founder of the Stern Grove Festival Association.

As the leader of the chart-topping group The Miracles and as a solo artist, Robinson was a leading force behind the success of Motown Records, as well as a talented songwriter who penned hits such as “My Girl,” “Tears of a Clown,” and “The Tracks of My Tears.”

Patti Austin is one of the most prolific musical talents of our time. A Grammy-winning singer and songwriter performing since the age of four, Austin's versatile vocal style spans jazz, gospel, soul, pop, and R&B.
