Public Enemy

  • Public Enemy is an American hip-hop group consisting of Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, Khari Wynn, DJ Lord, and the S1W group. Formed on Long Island, New York, in 1986, they are known for their politically charged music and sharp critiques of the American media, often addressing the frustrations and concerns of the African American community.

Their first four albums, released in the late 1980s and early 1990s, were all certified gold or platinum and have been described as one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in hip-hop history. Critics have called Public Enemy “the most influential and radical band of their time.”

In 2004, they were ranked No. 44 on Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time,” the highest placement for a hip-hop act at the time. The group was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013
